How to limit number of characters in post title? I wonder how far we are controlled and guided by these search engines. When I see my friends guiding the newbies to forget SEO, I smile inside. It’s in fact, they can forget SEO but not you. Slant a bit towards the direction you wish to go and then turn the handle to that direction slowly and in proportion to speed and inclination of your bicycle. Do I even need to remember this method when I’m riding a bicycle? But, do you think you should not tell it to somebody who is going to learn how to ride a bicycle? Yea, they’ve already learned a whole lot of SEO ‘how tos’ and already internalized most methods into habit. But, as a newbie you still need to check those alleys yourself. Oh, what I started to preach in this early morning? I was about to talk on number of characters in your post title. Google and other search engines limit the length of post title. If you are jolly and loe to explain everything in the title, search engines will trim them off to include only 62 or 63 characters. So the additional length of your title is all hidden on search engine results. That’s why you should limit the post titles within those 62 characters to have best effect on result pages. Today morning, I got an email from Blog Tyrant sharing a simple plugin. This plugin is meant to count number of character in post title and show the numbers in black (normal) or red (warning) color. Well, not bad if you want somebody to count them for you. But I don’t think you should go on installing separate plugin for each feature you require out of your WordPress blog. With every addition of plugin, you increased the overhead and time to load the page. Again, slow pages are not favored. Those difficult engines! I better prefer to make use of ‘WordPress SEO by Yoast’. This plugin is certainly a better alternative to All-in-one-seo plugin. Once you have WordPress SEO by Yoast it does: Count the number of characters in your title Count the number of characters in meta description Display the search engine snippet preview Analyze your page and offer suggestions And some too techie stuff – Advance Check out the screenshot from my blog Bivori.com: You should avoid too many plugins and why should you when there is a single plugin to do all of them?
